Janice's Story
"The way to succeed at MyPath is to put forward your best effort so you can make the lives of all your clients the best lives they can live."
"Being an employee-owner at MyPath means we work for a company that makes the lives of those we serve better, and MyPath also gives employee-owners a voice and listens to their ideas and concerns."
Janice Beattie knew she found the right place to work when she met her clients and co-workers. She started with Homes for Independent Living (HIL), a MyPath Company as a Direct Support Professional on August 9, 2006, at HIL – Rosewood a home in Manitowoc. In 2012, the Rosewood clients moved to a new home called HIL-Whitetail. Janice followed her clients to HIL-Whitetail, as she wanted to continue working with her them, and she has supported them ever since. In August 2024, Janice celebrated her 18-year anniversary as an employee-owner of MyPath.
Janice makes a difference in people’s lives and feels she is awesome at it! That’s why she continues to work at HIL. For Janice, being an employee-owner at MyPath means she works for a company that makes the lives of those we serve better, and MyPath also gives their employees a voice and listens to their ideas and concerns. HIL is committed to help employee-owners achieve their goals, no matter how difficult they may seem and encourages career advancement.
Janice’s daily routine includes caring for, engaging with, and assisting clients with their daily activities, as well as van runs, meal preparation, cleaning, medication administration, and documentation. Janice’s favorite activity is the Annual Client/Staff Picnic. She says there is always a lot of tasty food, music, laughs and games. Janice especially enjoyed the water games at the 2023 picnic. Everyone participated including direct care staff, clients, and management, and no one left the picnic dry!
MyPath has influenced Janice's life, as she realized that caregiving is what she was meant to do. Janice says her clients, co-workers, and management staff make it worth it to come in every day and put her best foot forward.
When Janice really began to connect with her clients, that sparked her passion for caregiving! This allowed her to provide individualized care to those she supports, and she says it gave her a sense of accomplishment. Each day her confidence grew, and she began to assist at other programs within HIL – Manitowoc throughout her 18 years.
Janice says MyPath has changed her life because she has met and worked with so many different clients over the years and the work is truly fulfilling. She believes the way to succeed at MyPath is by putting forward your best effort so that you can make the lives of all your clients the best lives they can live. If you ask any staff or client that has worked with Janice over the years, they will tell you that she always has a smile on her face and wants to make you laugh. And her laugh is contagious. HIL is so grateful and honored that she has been part of the MyPath family.
