“I knew I loved HIL as soon as I started working here. Working with our clients has taught me patience and understanding and to take time to enjoy life, laugh, and not take life too seriously.”

Chris Chisholm’s supervisors and co-workers would describe him as someone who everyone enjoys talking to and working with. For 22 years, he has been a dedicated Owner at Homes for Independent Living (HIL). Chris does his job, cares about his clients and his co-workers and has a “all is well” attitude.

Chris has worked as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) in many programs located in the Northeast Area and is well known throughout the area. Over the years he has seen numerous changes at HIL and is grateful to have witnessed the company grow and succeed. As he reflects on his years at HIL, Chris enjoys working independently but knows that his supervisors are there if he needs them. He loves the amazing home he works in now, as well as the other homes he has worked in in the past. “HIL has some really amazing houses that are beautiful and well-kept,” Chris says.

Chris found his calling for caregiving when he was in college. He was searching for a summer job and found a position at a summer camp for people with disabilities. Chris said he decided to “give it a whirl” and fell in love. Looking to advance his career further he continued looking for new opportunities. He saw an advertisement in the local paper for a position at HIL. After meeting his supervisors, co-workers, and clients he knew it was time to make the move!

Discussing the growth opportunities within HIL, Chris expresses a great appreciation for the numerous promotional opportunities offered to Owners. Over the years Chris has seen many co-workers who once worked alongside him as a DSP, move into management and other support positions and helped the company succeed.

Chris’ passion is helping people! He always tries to look at the good in people and in life. Chris states it’s the simple pleasures in life that make him happy and believes that’s the same for the people he supports- “Some of our clients don’t have a lot to look forward to, day in and day out, and we are sometimes all they have, so anything I can do, no matter how small, can make a difference.”

Thank you, Chris, for the difference you have made in so many lives over the past 22 years and for the many you have yet to make a difference for in years to come!

Working at a MyPath Company

Our employees are why MyPath companies work so well for the people we serve. They’re the reason we’re 100% employee-owned and have nine MyPath companies and 150 locations throughout Wisconsin and Indiana. To help take care of the future of our people, employees who are with us for a year, with over 1000 hours of work, begin to receive company-funded MyPath stock shares. After that first year, continued employment with us means continued growth in the number of company shares you receive.

This culture of ownership goes beyond stock. As an employee owner, you can expect transparency, respect and appreciation. If you are called to help others and be part of something bigger, MyPath can help you explore opportunities throughout its many organizations.
