Alaina's Story

Alaina loved the feeling of coming into work each day, knowing that every shift would bring a new adventure. She also valued the opportunities for career growth within the company.

“Getting to work side by side with the clients, knowing I am helping them live their best lives. Whether it’s baking a special treat, shooting baskets, going to the park for swing rides, or simply watching a favorite show together—any time spent with them is the best part of my job."

When Alaina joined Homes for Independent Living (HIL), A MyPath Company, 7 ½ years ago, it was to supplement her income while waiting for her next nanny position to begin. She started working third shift at a Long-Term Behavioral (LTB) program in Jefferson County. During this time, she discovered HIL’s sister company, Genesee Community Services (GCS) and worked for both GCS and HIL for a period of time.

Alaina eventually began to work full time at HIL and quickly realized she wanted to make a greater impact, setting her sights on a management role. She loved the feeling of coming into work each day, knowing that every shift would bring a new adventure. She also valued the opportunities for career growth within the company. To find where she fit best, Alaina split her time between LTB programs and CBRFs, searching for the role that truly resonated with her.

Ultimately, Alaina decided that the long-term behavioral services HIL provides was her calling. Her background in education, along with her experience working in daycares, provided her with valuable knowledge of Individual Education Plans (IEP), Individual Service Plans (ISP), and Behavior Service Plans (BSP). She began her management journey as a Direct Support Supervisor for a two-bed behavior home and has since grown into the role of Service Coordinator, coordinating services for six Long Term Behavior programs.

When asked about the best part of her role, Alaina’s answer was no surprise: “Getting to work side by side with the clients, knowing I am helping them live their best lives. Whether it’s baking a special treat, shooting baskets, going to the park for swing rides, or simply watching a favorite show together—any time spent with them is the best part of my job.”

Working at a MyPath Company

Our employees are why MyPath companies work so well for the people we serve. They’re the reason we’re 100% employee-owned and have nine MyPath companies and 150 locations throughout Wisconsin and Indiana. To help take care of the future of our people, employees who are with us for a year, with over 1000 hours of work, begin to receive company-funded MyPath stock shares. After that first year, continued employment with us means continued growth in the number of company shares you receive.

This culture of ownership goes beyond stock. As an employee owner, you can expect transparency, respect and appreciation. If you are called to help others and be part of something bigger, MyPath can help you explore opportunities throughout its many organizations.
